Our ADHD pathway
Referral
Your GP writes a referral requesting ADHD assessment and management, and you submit it online.
Triage and waitlist
We review every referral. Your child joins the ADHD clinic list, which is separate from our medical and developmental clinics. Children aged 10 and over may be offered our GP ADHD pathway, which can be sooner.
Assessment
There is no single test for ADHD. Your paediatrician takes a detailed history and gathers information from you and your child's school. Initial appointments take one to two hours.
Diagnosis and plan
We explain what we found and agree a plan with you: strategies for home and school, therapy such as occupational therapy, and medication if it's right for your child.
Getting treatment right
If medication is part of the plan, regular reviews are booked in advance to find the right dose.
Ongoing care
Your child keeps seeing their paediatrician for reviews. For some children, ongoing care is shared with our GPs, who work alongside our paediatricians.
Our ADHD clinic runs on its own days with its own waitlist, and appointments are longer for assessments and reviews.
Looking for an autism or developmental assessment? See our developmental clinic.
