Paeds Plus and the NDIS
The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) funds a wide range of allied health therapies to help individuals with disabilities achieve their goals. These therapies are typically delivered by qualified professionals like occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech pathologists, and psychologists, among others.
Specific examples of funded allied health therapies include:
-
Occupational Therapy:
Focuses on improving daily living skills, functional independence, and participation in activities.
-
Physiotherapy:
Addresses movement and physical function, helping with things like mobility and pain management.
-
Speech Therapy:
Supports communication and swallowing skills, including spoken language, sign language, and other communication strategies.
-
Psychology:
Provides mental health support, including therapy and counseling.
-
Exercise Physiology:
Helps individuals with disabilities improve their physical health and wellbeing through exercise programs.
-
Other therapies:
The NDIS also funds a range of other evidence-based allied health therapies, such as play therapy and sand therapy.
Funding is based on individual needs and goals:
-
Core Supports:
Funding can be used for therapy to assist with daily activities and functional independence.
-
Improved Daily Living:
Therapy can be accessed through this category for services like occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech therapy, and psychology.
-
Capacity Building:
Funding can support exercise physiology and other health-focused interventions to improve health and wellbeing.
Important points to consider:
-
Reasonable and necessary:
NDIS funding is provided for supports that are considered "reasonable and necessary" to achieve a participant's goals.
-
Individualized plans:
Participants' NDIS plans outline the specific supports they are funded for, including allied health services.
-
Evidence-based therapies:
The NDIS primarily funds therapies that are supported by evidence of effectiveness.
-
Choice and control:
The NDIS aims to provide individuals with greater choice and control over their supports, including the types of allied health therapies they receive.
Paeds Plus is proud to work alongside NDIS participants.
